Secret weapons are not necessarily about high tech “gadgetry” or about espionage covert CIA operations George Clooney movies.

We all have a secret weapon and it’s one of our most usefull and resourceful assets. 

Your secret weapon is your intuition.  It’s your “gut feeling.” It’s about paying attention to when something seems to good to be true.  It’s trust, with verification. 

It’s awareness of what is going on around us and confronting that nagging suspicion when we feel like we may be getting scammed.

Highly vigilant deep awareness is a silent and secret resource that is available to all of us all the time if used correctly.

Here are 4 ways to use your secret weapon when hiring a new employee:

1.  Before hiring someone and after checking references, how does this person make you feel intuitively?  Do feel positive energy?  After a few days, how does the thought of hiring this person make you feel.  This is about paying attention to your inner gut feelings.

2.  During the interview, are there “subtle” inconsistencies with a candidate’s description of their past?  Do you fully understand the reasons why someone has made the career choices that they have made?  Is there still something not right about what is being said and what appears on paper?  Use your secret weapon to ask the difficult questions, then check your gut feelings.

3.  Are you working with stale employees?  This might seem kind of harsh, but times change and some people cannot change.  Are your needs different and you have an employee that is not “cutting the mustard? ”  This is a hard one, because the numbers might not reflect some-one’s true contribution to your organization.  Complacency is an all to familiar scenario when in fact your team may need someone with a different dynamic.  Can you feel it?  Use your secret weapon.

4. What is keeping you up at night?  We all have times in our lives when our mind is racing with things that we should or should not be doing.  Awareness is key.  Use your secret weapon which disguises itself as a call to action.  You have a choice: Either take bold action right away or simply take one step in the right direction and then build upon that each and every day.
