Ah……the flood of resumes after posting an ad on one of the employment boards.

Candidly, it’s a shame that America’s employment landscape is in such shambles.  It’s terribly painful to be unemployed.  When you are unemployed, the lack of cash flow is concretely disturbing but the emotional turmoil can be overwhelming.

On the flip side are the companies such as those in the senior housing industry that are hiring but need candidates that have specific qualifications or licenses, such as a nursing home Administrator. It is widely known that the nursing home industry is the second most regulated industry in America, second only to nuclear power.   If a skilled nursing facility needs a Director of Nursing or an MDS Coordinator for example, there are certain specifications to the job that a prospective candidate must possess due to regulations.  And there is no getting around it.

So given the nation’s unemployment mess, every time an ad is placement on the job boards, companies are bombarded with resumes.  Then the task of crowdsourcing begins. Crowdsourcing is the task of using all of one’s resources (including outsourcing, job boards, referral networks, social media, etc.) to obtain great resumes in the pursuit of hiring the very best.

This also means sifting, reading and sourcing resumes thoroughly to find appropriate candidates for a job opening with specific requirements.  It’s no easy task.

It takes a trained professional to sift through resumes and to look for someone who may have the skills to be a good candidate.  Especially for those of us in the senior living industry.

When crowdsourcing, the goal is not to hit the bulls eye (by finding a candidate that is the perfect fit) but to hit the target (by finding someone that may have transferable skills.)
