There’s a whole new world out there in the senior housing industry. Think hospitality.
The obvious:
Employers and owners fill their critical health care job openings with applicants that have successful track records. Duh.
As the senior housing markets mature (long term care, CCRCs, Assisted Living, Memory Care, etc.) senior brass are looking for much more than staffing.
The not so obvious:
Sure, employers are looking for stable applicants that can display super talent. More than that, they are looking to hire super talented people that can provide outstanding hospitality.
It’s all about outstanding hospitality.
Do you remember the movie “Pretty Women” when Richard Gere’s character tells the clerk in the Beverly Hills store (on behalf of the Julia Robert’s character) that “We’re going to need some major sucking up here”?
“Major sucking up” will be the minimum with regard to hospitality as the senior housing markets seek to attract and maintain it’s resident customers.
If you are an applicant seeking employment in this venue, than be prepared to discuss your skills in hospitality because that is what the senior housing markets provide. They are in the hospitality business.
If you are an employer in the senior housing market, then it is imperative to hire people with the hospitality skills that that are associated with the very best customer satisfaction. No less.
