Research tells us that employee absenteeism is most prevalent on Mondays. It’s just so hard to get out of bed and be responsible and come to work for a lot of people. Yes good old Monday, the day that jump starts the business work week.
If you are an employer, the absent employee can throw a huge monkey wrench into the machinery of an operation. No matter what day of the week. A “no show” can be a “no go” for many employers.
As a business owner of a healthcare executive search firm, I can state first hand that very few things about my business infuriates me more than employee absenteeism.
Once in a while, of course things happen in our lives that might prevent us from coming to work.
But come on.
So here is some sound advice to employers and business owners: stop being held hostage to the absent employee. Try not to fool yourself or procrastinate in taking action immediately.
The absent employee needs to be fired and replaced by the “show up” employee for the success of your operation. Never fall into the trap that anyone in the work force is “irreplaceable.”
Think permanent absence.
It’s not only about performance when evaluating an employee. Showing up consistently is just as critical in permance evaluations.
In summary, absence might make the heart grow fonder. But not in business. If you are a business owner or a manager, wake up! Stop being absent and take a good hard look at absenteeism.
